Part of the mystery and magic of Mozart’s unfinished Requiem lies in the circumstances of its composition immediately before the composer’s death. The University Choir performs it in the completion commissioned from Duncan Druce by the Yorkshire Bach Choir. This illuminates the work from a different standpoint, allowing a different view of this unique composition, and also adds movements based on re-discovered Mozart sketches. The joyful Maria Theresa Mass is in sharp contrast to the Requiem and shows Haydn’s undimming compositional skill and imagination. The University Choir is joined by the outstanding Royal Northern Sinfonia for these two great works from the choral repertoire.
